Social Sciences Department 

The Social Sciences Department offers courses on history, culture, and geography.

Students in grade 7 study the history of major world civilizations through the Middle Ages. Students in grade 8 study United States history from government formation through the Civil War. 

Studentsin grades 9 or 10 study major turning points that shaped the modernworld, from the late 18th century through the present.

Aftera review of the nations beginnings, students in grade 11 study thedevelopment of U.S. democratic ideals and the major turning points inAmerican History in the 20th Century.

Duringthe first semester of grade 12, students pursue a deeper understandingof U.S. national, state, and local government. In the second semester,they study the basic principles of economics.

All classes meet the California History-Social Science Content Standards for California Public Schools for grades 7-12.

All ninth graders take one semester of Careers, a graduation requirement that includes career and college exploration study.
